We are delighted to invite you to join us at our annual knowledge exchange event on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) to be held on the 6th February 2025 from 9am to 13:00hrs at Brangwyn Hall in Swansea. This is one of the UN international days of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation, an opportunity to raise awareness on this form of violence against women and girls as well as take stock of progress towards eradicating FGM.
Over 230 million women and girls all over the world have undergone FGM, which is a 15% increase in the number of survivors, according to a UNICEF report, March 2024. It is estimated that the number of girls at risk of FGM is likely to rise to 4.6 million by 2030 which translates to nearly 4.4 million girls who are at risk in 2024, representing 12,000 girls at risk daily (UNFPA, 2024).
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) also known as ‘cutting’ involves all procedures that alter or cause injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons. FGM causes long and short-term consequences to the victims including psychological torture, cysts and hemorrhage (WHO, 2023).
Event agenda will be shared on our website nearer the time of the event. We look forward to seeing you on 6th February 2025.
