As part of our summer holiday activity programme for children and families, a group outing was organised to Blackpill Lido to promote social inclusion, outdoor recreation, and positive shared experiences among service users.
The group arrived at the destination at 12:30 PM. The environment was lively and vibrant, with the area bustling with children and families participating in various summer-themed activities. In addition to the facilities available at the park, several community-organised children’s activities were taking place on the premises. Our children enthusiastically joined in and fully engaged with the wider community events, which added an enriching element to the day.

The children particularly enjoyed time in the mini pool, where they played safely and interacted with peers. A scenic vintage train ride from Blackpill Lido to Mumbles and back proved to be a highlight, bringing joy to both adults and children alike. Many expressed delight at the opportunity, particularly those experiencing it for the first time.

The group also took part in the park’s outdoor play area, which included swings, see-saws, ziplines, and additional recreational equipment. A beach walk followed, during which children and adults collected seashells as personal mementoes. Everyone had brought along a dish, contributing to a shared picnic that included a variety of savoury and sweet snacks, fruit, and beverages.
Notably, one of our service users—typically reserved and less inclined to engage in group activities—actively participated in the day’s events. She joined in with the group activities and interacted with both staff and peers in a relaxed and joyful manner. It was heartwarming to observe her opening up in this setting, and it marked a significant positive step in her social development.
Throughout the outing, the atmosphere was filled with laughter, interaction, and appreciation. Several service users expressed their gratitude, with some sharing that this was their first outing in the UK and that it had been an unforgettable experience. They repeatedly thanked staff and stated how much they had enjoyed the day, referring to it as a “brilliant picnic in the park.”

Overall, the trip was highly successful in fostering community spirit, supporting social integration, and creating lasting positive memories for both children and adults.
