The event was well attended at the university of South Wales, Cardiff campus. The report was launched by Jane Hutt, minister for Social Justice and chief whip, Welsh Government.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were insightful presentations from Johanna Robinson, VAWDASV national advisor on , Welsh Government, Dr&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joanne Hopkins from Public Health Wales\/ACES and Dr Sarah Wallce, lecturer, University of South Wales and co-chair, VAWDASV research network Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below, find a statement from the minister and Bawso CEO and a link to the summary report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-default\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center has-brand-seven-background-color has-background\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 48%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\" style=\"padding-top:2em;padding-right:2em;padding-bottom:2em;padding-left:2em\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>\u201cI welcome this report on forced marriage in Wales. It aligns with the ambitions of Welsh Government\u2019s Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Wales strategy. I particularly applaud the evidence and case studies given by survivors and frontline specialist staff in the report, which helps us to better understand this insidious and horrendous form of abuse.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>These issues add to the unnecessary barriers to seeking safety in Wales which are utterly at odds with our vision to be a Nation of Sanctuary. It perpetuates gender inequality, undermines personal autonomy, and drives cycles of poverty and violence. At Bawso our goal is to challenge cultural norms, strengthen legislation and provide support to eradicate this abhorrent practice.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:19px\"><em>\u201cForced marriage chains dreams, stifles voices and shatters lives.
